Title: Outside Entertainment Center Latch
Post by: EC-Steve on May 29, 2017, 07:52:50 pm
Our outside latch on the entertainment center door is not aging as gracefully as us  ;D

Its getting a blotched mottled faded (pick your favorite term) to the surface.  Has anyone found a replacement / source for these?

Thanks!

Maybe you could remove it and then spray paint it or use some POR15 on it?  That would return it to its black finish and be pretty inexpensive.  It certainly can't make it look worse than it does now  ;D

If you want to replace it, you may want to use a chrome one, otherwise I'd think the same fate awaits the replacement.

Anyway those, AFAIK, are Southco latches.  That looks to be a Southco C5-21-35 Southco C5-21-35 Black Powder Coated Zinc Alloy Sealed Lever Compression... (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UC1TCV0) Thats a keyed part number in black.

Did some looking around, and if it is a Southco part, attached is the drawing.

Black

Chrome

Looks like you can find C5-21-312 in some web searches, be nice to find a source for the C5-31-313 since it has stainless hardware and a key shutter to keep the internals clean.

Looking on E-Bay, they all seem to be listed under "Compression Latch With Lock C5-21-35" ... have to look at the pictures and get the chrome one, and make sure from the seller that it is Chrome and not Zinc.

Late to the party but 303 will usually work to bring back the black.  Squirt a small amount on your index finger and rub it in.  Let it dry and repeat.  You may have to do this several time depending on how faded the latch is.
